Sunday

Away from the City

This past weekend I traveled two hours north of the city for a weekend away from campus. The fraternity, Sigma Chi held their annual semi-formal at one of the older brother's farms. We reached our destination by way of  a long gravel driveway. Upon arriving we saw the many tents set up to sleep in that evening, a stage for the band next to the house, and a huge bonfire just across the field. At first the fresh air was almost overtaking combined with all the natural elements around us. Don't get me wrong, I love the outdoors and the crispness of the air but it was a definite change from my past few weeks at Tech.
After our tent was set up and bags unpacked we were able to start exploring around. A few loud shots form far off led us to skeet shooting which I had never tried before. It was so exciting and I was even able to hit a disk! It amazed me how good some of the older brothers were at this sport, it was definitely something new for me! The rest of the afternoon was filled with riding 4-wheelers and hanging out with friends. It was just relaxing to be away from the stress of college.
The nighttime was my favorite part of the whole trip. The band played in the background while I hung out around the small fire near the house. Later in the evening the large bonfire was lit and everyone came around to warm up in the heat. I was able to look up at the stars and just see more than I would ever be able to near the lights around the city. I was so happy to be able to get away for the weekend, but just as happy to come home to my own bed. It's nice to take a break from everything around because it is so easy to get caught up in all the work and stress from school. I hope to be able to do that all again soon!
