GT Public Art

For the past few weeks we have been discussing public art in class. We have mainly referenced art in our home towns when talking in group discussions or public art in the city of Atlanta. When walking around this morning I realized that there are many interesting pieces to discuss right on campus. The campanile stuck out to me as one of the best pieces to delve further into. I think it looks very majestic and adds interest to Skyles walkway. I do however wish that GT would fill the base of the structure with water so I could see the statue with the fountains working.
The full name of this piece is the Kessler Campanile named after Richard Kessler, Tech graduate and former head of Days Inn. Richard Hill designed this statue as a modern representation of Tech Tower and has become a new symbol for the school. I like how this new statue was based upon one of the most recognizable buildings from Tech's past and present. It was built for the 1996 Olympics that were held in Atlanta.
