The Guerrilla Girls are a group of feminist artists that fight against discrimination in the art world. The members of the group disguise themselves in guerrilla masks and take on the pseudonyms of deceased female artists. Their goal is to reclaim "The F-word"... Feminism. This quote in itself sums up the modern and sharp campaigns that they run to expose the corruption shown in art museums and exhibits around the country. This group chose to adopt the guerrilla as their symbol in reference to guerrilla warfare, because it can never be certain when and where they will strike next.
I was first introduced to this group of women in a recent English class and I was intrigued. The group's punchy lines and advertising campaigns make it hard not to notice the message that they are trying to get across. I highly respect these women for fighting with such courage against an issue that is not easily settled and not often recognized. To learn more about this group you can check out their website: http://www.guerrillagirls.com/. I'll be sure to keep my eye out for Guerrilla Girls campaigns in the future.
