Legendary group Queen, have been captivating audiences for decades with their inimitable brand of theatrical rock n' roll. With over 300 million global record sales, an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Guinness Book of Records award for the most successful UK album chart artist ever, the Queen story is one of the most remarkable in modern rock culture.
Across the band’s 40 years, Queen's iconic logo has branded millions of album covers, inestimable quantities of sought-after merchandise, and a world-wide hit musical, ‘We Will Rock You’ which has been seen by over 12 million people. Through all of this, the Queen Royal Crest has become firmly imprinted into the global conscience and become one of the most instantly recognized logos of all time.
Now Queen are collaborating with Talenthouse on three separate initiatives; the first is to ‘Design a t-shirt for Queen’. The initiative offers fashion designers, illustrators and graphic designers the chance to become part of Queen’s visual history by creating their very own t-shirt design bearing the band's famous logo. The selected t-shirt will be sold in Queen’s online stores, on the band’s official site www.queenonline.com and on the Mercury Phoenix Trust website www.mercuryphoenixtrust.com. The winning design will also be featured on the band’s Facebook page, which claims over 7.5 million fans. All proceeds will be donated to fighting AIDS worldwide through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the charity set up in Freddie Mercury’s name.
The winning artist will receive $1,500 and a further 10 designers who receive the most votes will share a prize pool of $1,500. All submitted designs will be reviewed and judged by Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2011 with voting taking place on April 20 – 27, 2011. The winning design will be announced on May 5, 2011. To participate, fashion designers, illustrators and graphic designers are asked to download the Queen crest and submit their t-shirt design in .jpg format to http://www.talenthouse.com/ queen-anniversary-design-a-t- shirt
